Abdullah ibn Mas'ud : Learn, so when you have learnt , then act.

Az-Zuhree : The action of one who acts and does not know will not be trusted by the people and the people will not be happy with the saying of an 'aalim who does not act.

Sahl ibn 'Abdullah al-Fustaani : All the people are intoxicated except the scholars and all the scholars are confused except whoever acts according to his knowledge.

Sahl ibn 'Abdullah al-Fustaani : The world is foolishness and barren except the knowledge and all of knowledge is a proof against him except what is acted upon and all action is useless except with sincerity and sincerity is in great danger until sealed by it (the action).

Yusuf ibn al Hunain : With good manners you understand the knowledge and with knowledge your actions are corrected and with the actions wisdom is obtained and with wisdom you understand zuhud (renunciation) and granted the benefit of it and with zuhud comes abandoning the world and with abandoning the world comes longing for the Hereafter and with longing for the Hereafter the Pleasure of Allah Azzawajal is obtained.

Maalik ibn Dinar : When a servant seeks knowledge for practise, his knowledge humbles him and when he seeks it for other than that it increases him in immorality and pride by it.

Abu Hurairah : The example of knowledge which is not acted upon is like wealth from which nothing is spent in the way of Allah Azzawajal.

Abu Darda : I am not afraid that it will be said to me: "Oh Aamir what have you learned?", but I am more concerned that it will be said to me: "Oh Aamir, what have you done with what you have learned!"

Umar ibn Abdul-Aziz : Whoever does not consider speech to be part of his action will sin abundantly and whoever acts without knowledge will do more harm than good.

Maalik ibn Dinar : Indeed I found among the wise sayings: "There is no good for you to know what you do not know while you are not acting upon what you do know, because the likeness of that is as the likeness of a man who gathers firewood, so he ties up a bundle and tries to carry it but he is not able to, so he adds another one to it.

Ata reported : There was a youth who used to come to the Mother of the Believers (radiallahu-anha) from time to time and ask her and she would narrate to him. So one day he came to her and asked her, so she said: "Oh my son, have you acted yet upon what you have heard from me?" So he said: "No by Allah, Oh my mother ", so she said : " Oh my son, then why do you seek increase in Allah's proof against us and against you."

Fudayl ibn Ayyad : As for hadeeth, it is better that a man does not hear it than that he hears it and does not act upon it.

Sufyaan ath-Thawree : Would that I had not written down knowledge and would that I would be saved from my knowledge so that it would be even, neither against me nor for me.

Ash-Sha'bee : Indeed we are not the scholars but we have heard hadeeth so we have reported them. For the scholars are those who when they know, they act.

Abu Hurairah (ra) reported that Muhammad (saw) said, “Whenever a person becomes closer to

a ruler he will be further away from Allah.” [Ahmad]


"...and if a trial, such as poverty comes to you, give precedence to your religion over wealth. If that trial worsens, continue to put your religion before your wealth and your soul, for indeed the only one who is destroyed is the one whose religion is destroyed; the one who is poor is the one who has lost his religion. Know that there is no poverty after Paradise and there is no richness after the Hellfire

the one who shows off has 3 characteristics :
he is lazy when by himself, he is lively and energetic when with others, and he increases in his actions when he is praised and decrease in them when he is criticised"[az-Zuhd of A. Ibn al-Mubaarak by Ali(ra)].

"Knowledge (Ilm) is a comforting friend in times of loneliness, it is the best companion during travels, & it is the inner friend who speaks to you in your privacy" Mua’dh ibn Jabal (RA)

Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) said:"knowledge is more important than food without food the worst that will happen is death,but without knowledge the worst thing that will happen is eternity in the Hellfire."

Imam Ahmad's saying:

الناس أحوج إلى العلم منهم إلى الطعام و الشراب ، لأن الطعام والشراب يحتاج إليه في اليوم مرة أو مرتين ، والعلم يحتاج إليه في كل وقت
“People need knowledge more than they need food and drink, because they need food and drink two or three times a day, but they need knowledge all the time.”

["Majmu' Al-Zawaid", 1/201].

It is reported that Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “The people with the softest hearts are those who sin the least.”

Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd wrote:

فقد قيل: العلم ثلاثة أشبار، من دخل في الشبر الأول، تكبر ومن دخل في الشبر الثانى، تواضع ومن دخل في الشبر الثالث، علم أنه ما يعلم
“It was said knowledge is three spans: Whosoever enters the first span will become arrogant, and whosoever enters the second span will become humble, and whosoever enters the third span will know that he knows nothing”.

["Hilyat Talib-ul-Ilm", 41

The noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said ‘May God have mercy on a servant who spoke well and gained good, or kept silent and avoided harm.’ - Recorded by Ibn al-Mubarak.


Abdullah Ibn Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) sent a letter to Al Fuzail ibn
Ayazz in which he says: "Oh you who offer prayer in the sacred mosque, had you participated with us in the fields of battle, you would have known that, compared to our
jihad, your worship is the trifling of children. For every tear you have shed upon your
cheek, we have shed in its place blood, on our chests. You are jesting with your worship,
while you worshippers offer your worship, mujahideen offer their blood and person."


The noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said ‘Whoever uses sophistical arguments knowingly continues to be the object of God’s wrath until he desists.’ - Recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud.


Sufyan At- Thawri said: "Do not learn what you don't know until you act upon what you already know."

Remember death often: it will prevent you from sinning and help you to repent for your sins. [Ibn Abi Dunya]

"O you, who spends his lifetime disobeying his Lord, no one amongst your enemies is wicked to you more than you are to yourself " Ibn Qayyim al Jawziyyah

Do not think yourself great because you have met with righteous people, for there is no man more righteous than the Prophet (peace & blessings of Allah be upon him), yet the disbelievers and hypocrites did not benefit by simply knowing him." [Hasan Basri's [may Allah have mercy on him] advice to some of his students admonishing them about avoiding the state of being proud.]


Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Abu Ad-Darda’ (رضي الله عنه) said, “If I become certain that Allah has accepted even one prayer from me, it will be better for me than this life and all that in it. This is because Allah says,
[إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ]

(Verily, Allah accepts only from the those who have Taqwa.)

Bismillaah, wal-hamdulilaah, was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa rasoolillaah,

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakatuhu

Ibn Abee Haatim (d.328H) - rahimahullaah - said:
"I entered Damascus and came upon the students of hadeeth, and I passed by the circle of Qaasim al-Joo'ee (d.248H). I found a group sitting around him and he was speaking. Their appearance amazed me; and I heard him saying: "Seize the benefit of five things from the people of your time: when you are present, you are not known; when you are absent, you are not missed; when you are seen, your advice is not sought; when you say something, your saying is not accepted; and when you have some knowledge, you are not given anything for it. I also advise you with five matters: when you are treated unjustly, do not behave unjustly; when you are praised, do not become happy; when you are criticised, do not become upset; when you are not believed, do not become angry; and if people act deceitfully towards you,do not act deceitfully towards them." Ibn Abee Haatim said: So I took that as my benefit from Damascus."

Related by Ibn al-Jawzee in Sifatus-Safwaa (2/200).

Never leave a good deed because of its difficulty, for the difficulty will eventually go but the deed will remain forever.

Never do a bad deed because of its pleasure/enjoyment, for the pleasure/enjoyment will eventually go but the deed will remain forever.

The Mujahideen do not need you half men, with no resolve. They do not need any advice on Jihad from scholars who are paid for and defeated. They do not need to ask if it is okay with you or if their Jihad is compatible with your thinking. No, they do not need that. They have all the wisdom and the vision that they need. Die in your rage and continue your criticism of the Mujahideen. You cannot destroy their resolve; your poisoned pins will not affect their Jihad. Nothing will affect them. -Sheikh Al Maqdisi

The Sahaba asked Rasulullah (saw) "How come the Shaheed will not suffer the pain of death or have to go through the horror and the terror of the day of judgement." Rasulullah (saw) said "It is enough that he had to go through seeing the glittering of swords in front of his eyes."
